Standard penetration test

(copy 1)

Generals characteristics

This procedure developed by Terzaghi and Peck gives the measurement of the penetration resistance of soil, with the use of a standard sampler driven for 30 cm with a hammer of 63,5 Kgs dropping 75 cm. The drop hammer has a very simple running mode: set up hanging on the hoist rope and held on and screwed to the drill rods. After removing the safety pin, the outer tube can be raised together with the hammer. At 75 cm height, the cam releases the hinged hooks so that the hammer falls automatically on the drive-head. The lifting mechanism is then lowered, the hooks re-engaged on the hammer and the procedure can be repeated as often as needed.
